We were lucky enough to get teamed up with the High Fives Foundation (www.highfivesfoundation.org) to a young man by the name of Jason Craig. When I say young man I mean that only with regards to his age.
Jason is an 18 year old kayaker from Reno, Nevada that got into a terrible kayaking accident a year ago last March. For the last year plus he has been rehabbing to get back onto is feet and to the sports he loves. Through the injury and healing process Jason has realized a lot about life.
When we got together I knew that we had the chance to make a piece far differently than we have ever done before. Jason’s mind is so far ahead of his age isn’t somewhat ridiculous. It’s a true challenge to try to keep up with the words that come out of his mouth. He is strong physically but even stronger mentally and that probably has a good deal to do with how well he has recovered.
Working on this project pushed both of us to think more in depth about the recovery process than either of us had before. 3 days of shooting and 2 voiceover sessions later here is what Jason and I created:
